In terms of market reality, why are COBs so popular
Vtron, the market leader of high-end large-screen engineering in China, said that it has won more than 100 orders for high-end command and dispatch centers in more than a year since it launched COB small-pitch LED screens in the second half of 2016. COB small spacing, bear most of vtron audio-visual screen growth.
Domestic LED sealed testing enterprises have entered a large-scale expansion cycle since the second half of 2015. Much of that new capacity is slated for COB packaging technology. This is not only because COB LED display applications are accelerating, but also lighting applications, backlight applications for mobile phones and televisions are moving into the COB chip-level packaging era.
At the basic LED crystal manufacturer level, the development of small particle high brightness crystal is also increasingly abundant. Taiwanese companies attach great importance to the market potential of the latter, and believe that min-LED technology will be one of the main directions of the short-term LED application incremental market.
It can be said that the rise of COB technology is not a single fight, but the resonance of the entire industrial chain. From upstream wafers and packages to downstream applications, equipment and materials vendors are supporting the growth of COB products.
The overall optimism of the industrial chain inevitably means that COB technology has its unique advantages -- these advantages are also the key to the rapid landing of COB products in the large-screen market.
First, large COB screens are more stable. On the one hand, COB technology is a chip-level package, where the LED crystal particles are directly in contact with the PCB board (both in the official and flipboard), which increases the available heat conduction area of the LED crystal and improves the heat dissipation capacity. At the same time, this chip level packaging method, is "fully covered," that is, to the LED crystal put on a layer of 100 percent protection armor, beneficial to moisture-proof, knock against.
COB packaging technology, on the other hand, does not require a sticker LED to show the reflow process of the product. Reflow welding process is a high temperature welding process.
LED crystals are temperature sensitive.The reflow soldering process is actually the biggest factor in reducing the life of the LED lamp and bead. COB is precisely because it does not need reflow welding process, so its dead lamp rate is only one tenth of the table paste process, stability is greatly improved.
"For LED large-screen applications, especially command and dispatch centers, stability and reliability should be the most core demand." Vavon believes that this is precisely what gives COB technology an absolute right to speak in the high-end small-spacing LED application market.
Second, for audiovisual engineering, visual experience is also an important "choice point".
COB small pitch technology is characterized by chip - level packaging, optical resin cover.
Compared with the traditional table lamp bead, this structure has great difference in picture quality.
The high brightness of LED screens is an advantage, but it is also a disadvantage for indoor applications. Through chip level packaging, COB packaging has obtained better video optical performance, more comfortable and soft picture quality, and no significant sense of pixel particles, more suitable for "closer", "indoor ambient light", "longer long-term viewing" and other conditions of the application.
For this advantage, Vtron described it as "you will fall in love with COB at the first sight of comparison", fully illustrating the market experience advantage of COB products.
"Higher stability, reliability" and "better look and feel and comfort" are the "realistic" support points for COB spacing to become the standard for next-generation products. But that is not all the advantages of COB technology.
