Mini Led Heats Up! The Industrial Chain Has Entered A Period Of Rapid Growth
Jul 22, 2021
According to the latest survey of LED research center, the production cost of mini LED backlight display is still higher than that of traditional LCD and OLED screen. However, with the maturity of technology and the improvement of process yield, it is estimated that the cost of mini LED backlight display will decrease by 15% ~ 20% every year, and it will have the opportunity to be lower than that of OLED display in 2022, so it will be competitive in the market.
Mini led, also known as "submillimeter light emitting diode", was first proposed by Taiwan's crystal optoelectronics company. It refers to the display screen composed of LEDs with grain (chip) size of 50 μ m to 200 μ m, which is between micro led and small spacing display. Applications include Mini led direct display and mini LED backlight display. Due to the excellent performance of mini LED display in energy consumption, color gamut, contrast, HDR, flexibility, life and so on, the process difficulty is not as big as micro led, and it is relatively easy to make finished products. Therefore, mini LED is expected to become the leading product of LCD upgrading, and compete with OLED in the consumer market.

According to different application scenarios, mini LED can be used in direct display and backlight. Mini led direct display has high cost, and is mostly used in large-size products over 100 inches, including traffic management command center, security monitoring center, indoor commercial display and other professional display markets. The cost of mini LED backlight products is lower than that of direct display products. It is mainly used in TV, car monitor, tablet computer, notebook computer, desktop computer and other products under 100 inches.
Looking at the color TV industry in the past two years, Samsung, LG, TCL, Skyworth, Philips, Changhong and other TV brand giants are aiming at the medium and high-end large screen TV market. They have successively launched Mini LED backlight TVs with high profile, and the new lineup specifications are basically locked in 75, 85 inch and even larger screen sizes. The number of chips ranges from 15000 to 30000, The number of partitions ranges from 250 to 2500. From the layout of these brands, mini LED has covered large and medium-sized scenes, and the backlight display technology of mini LED is becoming popular.
At present, the overall development trend of China's Mini LED is good, and the upstream and downstream enterprises pay attention to it at the same time, and actively participate in the research and development of mini LED display, which has certain international competitiveness.

First, BOE, Huaxing optoelectronics and other traditional panel enterprises have built Mini LED panel production lines, and BOE has carried out strategic cooperation with Huacan optoelectronics to jointly develop Mini led;
Second, semiconductor enterprises such as San'an optoelectronics actively build Mini LED chip production lines, and San'an optoelectronics has taken Mini LED as the key development direction in the future;
Third, traditional led enterprises such as Leyard, Unilumin technology and Ledman optoelectronics have joined the development camp of mini LED panel, and large screen products are constantly bringing forth new ones;
Fourth, Konka Group and other complete machine manufacturers take Mini LED as their main research direction, and invest 1.5 billion yuan to carry out complete machine product development, production and sales.
With the breakthrough of mini led terminal market, mini LED will usher in substantial large-scale commercial application in 2021. It is estimated that the global Mini LED market will reach US $2.32 billion by 2024, and the CAGR from 2021 to 2024 is expected to reach 83.8%. The development of mini LED industry is a good opportunity for China's LED manufacturing industry and new display industry. It also paves the way for the development of micro led and helps China's new display industry to take the lead in the next generation of display technology.
