Sundiode Inc Develops Stacked RGB Micro LED Full Color Display
Nov 09, 2021
According to foreign media reports, sundiode Inc, a Silicon Valley company in the United States, demonstrated a full-color micro led micro display, which is composed of stacked RGB micro LED pixel array and adopts active matrix silicon-based CMOS backplane driving technology.
It is reported that sundiode, located in Campbell City, Santa Clara, California, is committed to developing micro LED display technology for AR / MR and other devices. In April this year, sundiode announced its proprietary stacked RGB micro LED pixel technology and announced the cooperation with Korea Photonics Technology Institute to realize full-color micro LED pixel devices on single crystal circles.
On this basis, sundiode adopts Jasper display Corp (located in Santa Clara, California, USA) to help realize the full-color silicon-based CMOS backplane, and develops a stacked RGB micro led full-color display with a micro LED chip size of 100 μ m. The display size is 15.4mm × 8.6MM with a resolution of 200ppi.

It is reported that the traditional pick & place technology needs to transfer three R / g / b pixels separately, while sundiode's proprietary technology only needs to directly connect the stacked RGB micro LED pixel array on the single crystal circle to the silicon-based CMOS backplane.
In addition, JDC, which cooperates with sundiode this time, is a Fabless IC design factory, which provides CMOS backplane technology to support the development of micro led, including full HD and 4K resolution backplane, with excellent current consistency and flexible addressing function.
Previously, Plessey in the UK also used JDC's silicon-based backplane to develop micro LED displays. This cooperation with sundiode once again shows that its micro led CMOS backplane technology can meet the customized needs of customers. It is suitable for low-power ar equipment, automobile headlights and other different applications.
At present, sundiode is in the next stage of research and development, aiming to significantly improve the full-color pixel density to meet the requirements of AR / MR equipment for display technology. In the future, sundiode will strive to develop ultra-high resolution micro displays based on stacked RGB pixel technology.
